Pauline and Shirley T. Smith Scholarship

The Pauline and Shirley T. Smith Scholarship is awarded to students who have demonstrated academic excellence and have secured gainful employment to defray a portion of the cost of their education. This scholarship program is administered through a collaborative effort between the Mid-Shore Community Foundation (MSCF) and Salisbury University, Chesapeake College and the University of Maryland, College Park. The scholarship is granted with preference to graduates of the following named public school systems in descending order of preference: Talbot County, Caroline County and Dorchester County. Continuation of the scholarship is dependent upon the recipient maintaining full-time enrollment and a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. The scholarship may be awarded for up to eight semesters depending on student classification at the time of first award. The scholarship is designed to fund a student’s cost of attendance including: tuition, fees , room, board and books less any other free sources of financial aid for up to eight semesters, pending funding availability. In addition to the criteria mentioned, a completed application and essay must be submitted to the Mid Shore Community Foundation by May 31st for consideration. Must be a graduate of a public high school in one of the following Maryland counties: Caroline, Dorchester or Talbot. Must have completed at least one semester of college coursework with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. Must demonstrate financial need through filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the academic year and must be enrolled full time. Must, to the extent possible, have secured gainful employment to defray a portion of the cost of the education.
