Cathell Garigliano Memorial Scholarship

Cathell Garigliano Memorial Scholarship

A 1996 almuna of Salisbury University, Kim was known for her quick wit, infectious smile, and an unmatched love of life. An avid fitness buff, she completed the Destin Beach 50k Ultra shortly after her first round of chemotherapy. Despite a grueling medical regimen, she maintained an active schedule for her children, volunteered at her church, and held numerous key positions with the Plew Elementary School Parent Leaders Association. Through it all, she was a model of grace and courage under the most difficult of circumstances. In her own words, Kim did NOT “lose her battle with cancer.” She was never in a war. Rather, she lived the best life she could live when confronted with a serious and deadly disease and did everything medically possible to live as long as she could so that she could be here for her children and her family.

This Scholarship was established by her father, Dr. Leonard Garigliano (Dr. G) long time professor at Salisbury University, and her sister, Michele M. Garigliano, 1983 Graduate of Salisbury. Kim graduated with a degree in History, her husband John Cathell, who she met at Salisbury, graduated with a degree in Political Science and Michele graduated with a degree in Biology, hence the focus. The family puts great value in education and is a long time supporter of the University.

The Cathell Garigliano Memorial Scholarship was set up to provide funding for up to 6 semesters to a current SU student according to the following minimum criteria: full-time undergraduate with a minimum of 30 credits; declared major in History, Political Science or Biology; minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50; Resident of the Eastern Shore of MD.
