Dr. Mark Holland Memorial Scholarship

Mark Holland was the heart, soul, spirit, and face of the biology department for 27 years. Mark would share with students his scientific interests and passions to let them experience biology through his eyes and mind. He helped students to think differently about science and to seek their own passions and potential. He was very nurturing and patient with students (and with faculty). He often took in those wayward students, those who didn’t do so well in standard courses, and gave them a different opportunity to succeed. And they often did.

In research, he was awarded many grants and patents on discoveries that he made just messing around in the lab – a serious hobby he always called it. But most importantly, were the many ways he built a sense of family and community. He just loved being here, in biology, in Salisbury, in Delmarva at SU.

This scholarship not only benefits a rising junior from the Biology department, but also celebrates the memory of Mark Holland’s incredible impact on Salisbury University and its students. Your gift today will make a difference.
