Dudley-Eshbach Study Abroad Scholarship

Dudley-Eshbach Study Abroad Scholarship

Recognizing the many benefits of study abroad, Dr. Janet Dudley-Eshbach established the Dudley-Eshbach Study Abroad Scholarship to assist students who wish to study in Latin America.

Dr. Dudley-Eshbach served as president of Salisbury University for 18 years (2000-2018). During her tenure, SU grew in selectivity, national distinction and size, from 6,400 to 8,500 students. As president, she avidly and proactively supported diversity, inclusion, and globalism. Having benefited greatly herself from study and travel in Latin America, during her presidency she created the University’s Center for International Education (named in her honor in 2018).

As an undergraduate at Indiana University (Bloomington), she majored in Spanish, Latin American Studies and completed a minor in Portuguese. She lived in Mexico while pursuing her doctorate in Hispanic Literature and Linguistics at El Colegio de México. Her faculty and administrative career spans over four decades and five institutions: Allegheny College, Goucher College, the State University of New York (Potsdam), Fairmont State University (WV) and Salisbury University.

Dr. Dudley-Eshbach, or “Dr. Janet,” as she likes to be known, now has returned to her “first love,” teaching Spanish language and Latin American Studies in the University’s Department of Modern Languages and Intercultural Studies. She hopes through the Dudley-Eshbach Study Abroad Scholarship to promote student interest in Latin America.

Dr. Janet and her husband, Joseph Eshbach, feel deeply committed to the success of Salisbury University and support a number of scholarship funds. They have made, in their estate planning, a gift that will further the University’s mission and success.
