The George E. Miles Scholarship
George Ernest Miles, 79, of Salisbury, MD, passed away on Wednesday, March 7, 2018, at his residence. Born on August 14, 1938 in Memphis, TN, he was the son of the late Ernest Miles and Elizabeth Jenkins Miles.
The eldest of three, George was raised in Memphis and graduated from Central High School in 1956. Blessed with a scientific mind, he aspired to study engineering. This proclivity led him to attend his dream school, Georgia Institute of Technology. He was a “Ramblin’ Wreck from Georgia Tech” and was a devoted fan of the Yellow Jackets. After earning a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering, George was hired by NASA at Wallops Flight Facility in Eastern Shore Virginia.
“According to Mr. Miles’ family, his education and career were points of pride throughout his life,” said SU President Charles Wight. “This generous gift from his estate will afford similar educational and career opportunities to countless SU students in the form of scholarships and financial aid. We are grateful for his posthumous support and that of his family.”
