Toth Scholarship for Math Education/Charles & Eleanor Toth Scholarship for Science Education
Charles and Eleanor Toth graduated from Salisbury State College in 1964 with degrees in Secondary Math Education. Each had received scholarships from their local school districts, and their tuition was augmented by their promise to teach two years in the state of Maryland. Before graduation, a Salisbury Math professor helped Charles receive a full scholarship for a Masters in the Art of Teaching at Harvard University. They returned to Maryland and had successful teaching career in both Math and Science. Their association with Salisbury helped their daughter receive a nursing degree from Salisbury. Another daughter received a scholarship to attend the University of MD.
Knowing that Salisbury and scholarships had played an important role in their family, after Charles passed away Eleanor set up the Toth Scholarship for Math Education in his memory. The following year she set up the Charles & Eleanor Toth Scholarship for Science Education. It is her hope that these scholarships will continue to create excellent Math and Science teachers.
