Zoey DiPasqua Endowment for the Betty Turner Memorial Nursing Scholarship
In February of 2017, Betty Turner, who was a Peninsula Regional Medical Center nurse for over 53 years passed away. Betty committed her life to the institution and nursing education, yet when she died with no funeral or obituary, the then 12-year old Zoey wanted to find a way to ensure that Ms. Betty Turner, her mentor, would never be forgotten. In less than two years and with a $2,000 initial donation from her personal savings, Zoey raised the necessary $10,000 through fundraisers, donations by Betty’s former colleagues, professional nursing organizations such as the Peninsula General Hospital Nurses Alumni Association, as well as the American Association of Critical Care Nurses. Consequently, the Zoey DiPasqua Endowment for the Betty Turner Memorial Nursing Scholarship provides an annual scholarship to a Salisbury University Honor’s College nursing student. It is Zoey’s hope that this award will forever honor the legacy of one of the greatest and most respected nurses on the lower Eastern Shore.
Zoey is a student at Mardela High School, where she serves as the President of the Red Cross Club in which she founded to enrich her local community and provide support to the military. Additionally, she serves as a board member on the Salisbury Youth Civics Council and is a Ben Carson Scholar. Zoey serves as a United States Naval Sea Cadet and Civil Air Patrol Cadet. Her career goal is to become a medical officer in the United States Navy.
